This diagram shows the City of Cupertino, located inside Santa Clara County in the Bay Area of California. Cupertino is home to more than 60,000 residents and has existed since the 19th Century.
The Climate Action Plan 2.0 is an important policy initiative of the Cupertino City Council which aims to protect the environment of the City, promote adaption & resilience, and tackle climate change in an equitable manner for all residents.
A climate action plan (CAP) is a policy document that local governments use to help guide their efforts in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the impacts of climate change. There are a variety of different components to a CAP that collectively serve as a strategic framework to help local governments like the City of Cupertino plan and execute climate policy:
Cupertino's first CAP was published and adopted by the City Council in 2015. However, because climate science and policy are constantly evolving, these documents need to be updated every few years to help better align the City to stay on track with its reduction targets.
Cupertino adopted the Climate Action Plan 2.0 in 2022 which is the current, active CAP that helps guide the Cupertino Green Team and broader City staff in their efforts to decarbonize the City and take climate action at the local level. You can read the full CAP 2.0 here or continue browsing through this Climate Action Dashboard for an up-to-date summary of the current climate action programs the City is working on.
